Originally a company that produced only watches, Fossil watches expanded their line to include leather goods, wallets, and sunglasses during the 1990s. With the introduction of these new lines, Fossil watches saw an immediate rise in popularity, and expanded their operations to include international markets as well. Fossil watches are one of the best known brands in the world. Founded in 1984 by Tom Kartsotis native of Texas, with the advice of his older brother. The name derives from the nickname for the brothers of his father. Taking into account the popularity of fashion watches Kartsotis was separated from the family of banknotes and brokerage firms started Fossil watches, Inc., together with his brother Kosta at the end of 1980.
